Strathcona County is the immediate eastern neighbour of the city of Edmonton. It consists of a number of communities and landscapes ranging from a highly industrialized western core, a suburban and exurban inner ring, to an agricultural outer ring, and forested fringe. The majority of its population, however, lives in one community, Sherwood Park, which is sometimes claimed as "the world's largest hamlet", with a population over over 70,000 people (2016).
